Minnie Mouse. Ft. Winkk

Hello Family!

How is everyone doing? Can you believe that we are already nearing the end of 2016? With my birthday around the corner and so much happening on the work front, I haven’t had the time to go birthday shopping hence I have been just shopping online! 😀 I am almost done emptying my account for this month with just a few things I feel I need: Sunglasses. But one thing I suck at is shopping for glasses. Honestly, I need opinions from 20 different people and am not convinced that easy.

Getting the right eye wear can be quite tricky after all. Either it doesn’t fit well on your face or it exceeds your budget. And when you do find something that is reasonably priced, you have to be open to the idea that the quality would be compromised upon. Don’t we all face it? We go to an optical store with a fixed budget in mind. We have our own ideas of what we want. But do the sales executives get it? I doubt. They take extreme pleasure in showing us frames that are way out of our budget and then convince us into buying them. But the dilemma doesn’t truly end here. After 30 minutes of trying on various frames and innumerable selfies, when you finally decide on a pair (after mentally calculating the prices!), you are very conveniently informed that they have some really hi-fi lenses which are better than the regular ones and they would come at an additional cost. If it’s sunglasses, they would come up with these really tech names and convince you that why the expensive ones are better for your eyes!If you have the heart to spend an atrocious amount of money on a pair of glasses, great. Otherwise, the stressful cycle of selecting frames within your budget begins again.

But what if I told you that there is someone out there making your task easier? Someone who makes good quality frames which are afforable and fashionable? Someone who makes shoppingfor glasses a fun experience? You heard me right. Enter, Winkk. A young startup with the core idea of making eye wear shopping a lot simpler and affordable, Winkk runs through an online ecommerce website. And true to their word, their glasses are priced all under Rs. 2000, which is honestly pretty reasonable. The brand was established with a vision to create a platform that is honest and makes shopping for optical products easy, economical and fun. Trusting on their claim, I decided to order a pair of sunglasses from their website. When the parcel came in was I satisfied or what! The delivery happened within 3 working days and the product was exactly as the picture had suggested. What I also liked about them was their “Custom Eyes” feature. How the feature works is that a customer can upload a selfie and a team of virtual stylists at Winkk will get to work like little minions and shortlist a few styles for the customer. A personal touch with technicality know-how, it’s worth giving a try. No? And all at zero additional cost. You pay for the product, the services come complimentary. Being a designer and a fashion blogger, I am supposed to be a better judge of what would suit my face type and look good on me, and I accept I am really sorted on what I want. However, online shopping can be really tricky. Without actually wearing or trying something on, buying clothes is still okay because you have a set standard measurement chart. But when it comes to glasses, it has to not just fit but also suit your face type. No? Hence, when you have services that take care of this one major issue we all face, life is pretty much sorted! A fun fact about Winkk, which is also a noble fact is that they donate a pair of glasses to the needy for every purchase made. Isn’t that the sweetest?

You can check out their website here.

You can check out their Custom Eyes feature here.

You can buy the same sunnies I bought for myself here.

The Solitary Reaper

Now is the time you can say, “Oh hello stranger!” I get it. I deserve it, okay? Go on. Say it. I have been pretty much dead on my website for the longest time and you guys have every reason to hate me for leaving you alone for all this time! But can I atleast try and make up for it? Give me a chance?

Enough with the cute talk, if you are reading this, you have probably decided to give me a chance so “HELLO!”

As we close on 2016, I have a total of 4 story posts (I know I am sorry!) that have been in the drafts section of this site for the longest time and deserve that much needed attention. This one is my favourite and my personal best I feel and I am sharing raw unedited pictures straight from the camera. Inspired by a childhood favourite poem, “The Solitary Reaper” this idea and concept came in quite effortlessly. However, I have to admit that the trek up these treacherous hills required some extra efforts! To give you a better understanding of the mood, I have shared the poem below. Enjoy reading!

‘The Solitary Reaper’

Behold her, single in the field,
Yon solitary Highland Lass!
Reaping and singing by herself;
Stop here, or gently pass!
Alone she cuts and binds the grain,
And sings a melancholy strain;
O listen! for the Vale profound
Is overflowing with the sound.

No Nightingale did ever chaunt
More welcome notes to weary bands
Of travellers in some shady haunt,
Among Arabian sands:
A voice so thrilling ne’er was heard
In spring-time from the Cuckoo-bird,
Breaking the silence of the seas
Among the farthest Hebrides.

Will no one tell me what she sings?–
Perhaps the plaintive numbers flow
For old, unhappy, far-off things,
And battles long ago:
Or is it some more humble lay,
Familiar matter of to-day?
Some natural sorrow, loss, or pain,
That has been, and may be again?

Whate’er the theme, the Maiden sang
As if her song could have no ending;
I saw her singing at her work,
And o’er the sickle bending;–
I listened, motionless and still;
And, as I mounted up the hill,
The music in my heart I bore,
Long after it was heard no more.

-William Wordsworth

The. Classic. Diwali

Happy Diwali!

I have been forever busy with preparations for a few new things planned with my label and that has pretty much kept me off social media. So well this is my come back effort to coax you guys into liking me again. Okay? Sharing a few pictures from the second look I shot with Sohail! 🙂

We kept it really subtle and classic for this one. A classic bandgala suit for Sohail in black and black shoes was enough to give him that suave look. And well I wore a white on white kurta set with a contrast dupatta. I kept it really subtle with pearl jhumkas and bangles and a pretty gold clutch to accessorize my look!

Truweight × WLI

Hey Family!
How is everyone doing? We are almost done with 2016. Can you believe it? Over the last few months I have been so busy and caught up with work that health and fitness literally took a backseat for me. I mean we all go through this phase right? We all blame it on the “work pressure”. If you don’t do it, congratulations. Your priorities in life are sorted. I? I am sorry I am an average human being who gets lazy and as a result chubby very quickly! Also, the blogging culture and the invites to some of Mumbai’s best restaurants don’t do much help to my waistline. Not that I am complaining because who am I kidding? I love food! But being a foodie has its own negatives, especially if your body thinks water and oil are the same thing and just adds layers of fat all over your body for no reason! I have never followed a diet or stuck by it for long. Basically, the truth is if you don’t let me eat, I don’t function. April 2016 I was 1 kg away from my dream weight. I was active, alert and fitting into my skinny jeans. You know the skinny jean test right? If you don’t fit into your tight 5 year old jean, you haven’t achieved your body goal! May I had my first fashion show. June came in and brought with it more projects. July, August, September: months kept flying by and before I knew it, we had entered October. And suddenly, I was 6 kgs away from my dream weight. Do you make new year resolutions? I did too. To gift myself a fit body this year. Two weeks back, I almost gave up on that dream. And then, right when I had decided to let go, I stumbled upon Truweight. I read through their website and was a little sceptical. The reason simply being that most diet consultants starve their clients. I have looked up enough number of websites online. I am being honest here. We all know what a big industry weight loss is! But for some reason, the website for Truweight ensured me that I would not be starved. And THAT was enough convincing. I called their helpline and got myself their Detox Kit. The parcel came in and boy was I surprised! It had so much of food!

From quinoa seed snacks to sesame seed laddus, green tea to hibiscus tea, Irish chocolate flavoured shakes to oats mixture: it had tonnes of food. To begin with, that in itself was a relief factor for me. Other than food, the box contained two books, a cute badge and a sipper. This was a surprise! I started browsing through the books and quickly fell in love with the easy going language. Being a blogger myself, I love it when an author writes in a relatable language and both the books had that factor in them. While “Why 80% Dieters fail?” is a realistic take on hilarious body and weight loss ideas most of us have, “Ultimate Guide To True Weight Loss” is a more serious, theoretical take on weight loss with facts and figures in place. Anyways, coming back to Truweight: the brand follows a simple 4-cycle diet program which ensures that the consumer eats on time and eats healthy. It also busts a lot of myths regarding the so-called “Diet foods”, “diet coke” etc. For example did you know artificial sugar is actually worse than normal sugar? I did not know that. For real! And I know my father uses artificial sweetener, assuming like most people do, that it is a healthier option. These are the kind of myths that are broken with this kit. I started on 7th October and I just completed ten days yesterday and the results? I already feel much more lighter and active. But the bonus is that I checked my weight and I am 2 kgs lighter than what I was ten days back. I know that it is not a huge amount of weight that I have shed and still layers of flab exist all over me that need to go, but at least with just some changes in my lifestyle and eating habits, the journey towards a fitter body has started. Living a very sedentary lifestyle with just too much work pressure, when you get the luxury of phone consultation on your fingertips and healthy food products delivered to your doorstep is when you realise, you just have to make a conscious effort and prove your loyalty towards your body. The rest? The rest your body shall take care of you.
With Love,

Inaaya

A New Realm

Lips of velvet pursed and trembling;

Eyes searching for quests unsolved,

She entered the gates of a new realm,

When dimness turned to dawn.

Feet shivering to find their ground;

Heart thumping too loud,

Oh! the tension could be sensed

in the way she stumbled around.

Pretty faces powdered white;

Long line at the bar behind,

Eyes Piercing through delicate lace,

Alas! There was no place to hide.

Unsure steps marked her entry;

Submissive and quite,

She struggled to stand tall

In a world full of lies.

Hola family!

Hope everyone is doing well. This is a throwback post because it never made it out of my drafts folder for some reason! The poem was written in darker times but was the inspiration behind this shoot. I hope you understand it if not relate to it. We all go through paths that aren’t lit but the idea is to always remember that there is light at the end of every tunnel. To the times gone by and the times that are yet to come, I smile. 🙂

Sweater Weather (:

Hola!

If you haven’t read my blog post on Sale Season, you need to read it right now to realize how seriously I take discounts. 🙂

Well, Infinity Andheri West was on a flat 50% off last week for just a day. Imagine my joy! Being a shopaholic that I am, I landed at the mall at sharp 9 am and to my ultimate joy and happyNess, I found some clothes I’d seen a few days back in the fresh stock on a 50% discount! A lot of “fashionistas” out there might have issues with shopping during the sales but well, I like to make my own style statement and not have to follow the norms the fashion council puts on us. And we can all do with a little savings can’t we?

The sweater top, sling and distressed denims are all from the sale section and I love how it has come together to create this trendy city girl look. What do you think?

Seven Tips To Make The Best Of Sale Season

Hello family!

How is everyone coping with the sale season? I don’t know about me but my wallet  is definitely not doing well. It seems to have lost some weight lately. How about yours? If you understood what I meant, you should be smiling like an idiot while looking at your screen right now (not necessarily, you could be frowning at my lack of ability to joke as well. It’s a free country!). If not, well what I meant was, are you as broke as I am? 🙂

Sale season is that time of the year when most brands put out their last season’s products up for grab at a reasonably decent price for us the buyers. The reason why that is a win-win situation for both parties is because:

  • With every new season comes a new collection and no one would lay hands on designs that were from a season back. Putting it out on sale is the store’s last hope of making some money on pieces that’ll be dead stock otherwise.
  • Buyers get things at a relatively cheaper price so well who wouldn’t be happy on saving a little money?

A few things I keep in mind while shopping. I am serious about these:

  • List things: Maintain a list of things you actually need which are otherwise too expensive. You don’t have to write it down on paper per say. You could write it down on your phone or text it to your mom. For the record, I do the latter. This ensures you know your essential requirements and helps you plan. Also, if you have a cool mom like mine, your mom might actually remind you of something if you forget 🙂

  • Set a budget: Unless you are an Ambani or a Birla, you don’t have a never ending source of money. Spend wisely. YES. I am saying it. Splurging on things just because you like them is not just a waste of money but REALLY a waste of space too. Where would you keep all the trash once you’ve bought it? 🙂

budget_1.jpg

  • Track your brands: Keep checking on your favourite brands for when is it going on discount. Shopping is a serious business and if you want to make the most of sale season so that you don’t burn a hole in your pocket later or lose out on your sizes and styles, make sure you keep a track of when your favourite stores are entering sale. Check with them when you are in the mall or have your number in their contact list. Most brands send out messages for their loyal customers for a preview or if not a preview, atleast details of their next sale.

Fashion-Valley-directory.jpg

  • Don’t buy it because it’s cheap: A lot of us face this difficulty while we are shopping. We see the price tag and go crazy because it is available for cheap. It’s not a smart practice. If you don’t need it, even if it is just worth Rs. 500 it is a WASTE of money. You could have spent it on something better.

woman-checking-price-tag-on-shirt-in-store_web

  • Shop Smart: Shop for classics and not fads. Now what is a classic? A product that remains in trend and is fashionable regardless of what year you are living in. For example: A white shirt is a classic. A fad is something that fades out with fashion, for eg. cheetah print was in trend at one point but no longer (thank god for that!).

Fashionable young woman shopping in a clothing store.

  • Buy your size: The temptation to shop for items that have their prices slashed down can be immense. I agree. But don’t lose control and shop for the wrong sizes. Buying a pair of denims that are too tight or a skirt that is too short may be a waste. Part with your money only if you think the item in question is actually a perfect fit for you.

GTY_jeans_jef_140901_16x9_992.jpg

  • My last tip for you all is a list of things you could invest in:
  1. A classic black/white/red/orange/pink/navy/yellow tee: One cannot have enough of tees and well, they NEVER go out of style. They are wardrobe staples after all. AND available at MAXIMUM discounts usually.
  2. A pair of denims: Invest in the colours you don’t have. Black, white, grey, blue. Distressed denims will continue be in trend coming fall as well, so I can safely say you can invest in them.
  3. Biker Jacket: Whether it’s denim, corduaroy or leather, biker jackets never go out of style
  4. White shirt: One can never have enough whites. Versatile, fashionable and ever-green, you could always invest in another white shirt this sale season
  5. Light sweaters and sweatshirts: With winters soon approaching, investing a few light sweaters for fall is not a bad idea really. Go for basic colours and you’d be fine.

Hope this helps you. If you have any tips, feel free to share them in the comments section! 🙂

With Love,

Inaaya
